Charles Gounod’s opera Faust received its premiere at the Opera Centre in May 2004. This was the third production in the two years of the Center’s existence, the first one from a foreign repertoire. Galina Vishnevskaya herself was the artistic director of the production. According to her, “Faust is one of the most beautiful and beloved operas, a masterpiece that is rarely seen in the repertoire of Russian theatres today. Such luminaries as Ivan Kozlovsky, Natalia Shpiller, Mark Reizen, Alexander Pirogov, Ivan Petrov, and, of course, the great Feodor Chaliapin as Mephistopheles, starred in it. Amazing music, wonderful libretto, wonderful roles for actors”.

The performance has received the most positive reviews from both: professionals and the public. Now, 15 years later, the audience will be offered a new version of the production.
