On June 1, on the International Children’s Day, the stage of the Zimny Theatre hosted “Rising Stars of Russia” charity gala concert, programmed especially for children and youth audiences. The mayor of Sochi Anatoly Pakhomov and the artistic director of the Opera Centre Olga Rostropovich have warmly welcomed the audience before the concert, stressing the importance of patriotic upbringing and raising interest in Russian history and culture among children.
The concert, held with great success, featured the soloists of the Opera Centre and soloists of the Centre’s orchestra, Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation scholarship holders, as well as young opera singers – students of the School-Theatre “Galina Vishnevskaya”.
The Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre presented in Sochi one of its most vivid performances on June 2nd – “Carmen” opera by Georges Bizet.
The production has aroused great interest of the public in Sochi: Zimny Theatre could barely accommodate everyone. Loud applause – a highest award for young singers. The leading parts were performed by the soloists of the Opera Centre strengthened by the prize winners of the Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition, extending thus their large tour in the cities of Russia.
A special photo exhibition, dedicated to the life and work of Galina Vishnevskaya, has been installed at the Zimny Theatre foyer.
Sochi has become the final point of the Opera Centre’s tour, which started on May 21 at the VIII International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Baku and continued in Angarsk and Irkutsk at the “Breath of Baikal” festival.
