On the 1st of September, the first day of the new scholar year, the artistic group of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre gathered together to discuss their plans for the theatre and studies season to come. Fifteen young singers from Ekaterinburg, Kalmykia, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Irkutsk, Rostov, Moscow, having successfully passed a difficult competition, are first-year students now. This autumn for the Centre is scheduled with tours. In September and October the group is in Mexico presenting G. Verdi’s «Rigoletto» and G. Biset’s «Carmen» and also in Berlin, Germany. One of the key events is certainly the premiere of the fantasy performance «Marriage and other horrors» staged by Vladimir Mirzoev, and dedicated to the 200th anniversary of N. Gogol. The performance unites scenes from Russian operas based on the great writer’s compositions such as «The Fair at Sorochyntsi» and «The Marriage» by M. Mussorgsky, «Christmas Eve» and «May Night» by N. Rimsky-Korsakov and «Cherevichki» by P. Tchaikovsky. Also for this season other tours are planned: participating in the «Novoe Peredvizhnichestvo» Festival, concerts in Saint Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Republic of Southern Africa, Italy and other countries.
