April 1, Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre presents opera-spoof “The African Princess Vampuka” by V. Erenberg – parody to the absurd conventions and stock phrases in the opera genre.
Premiere of this “musical feuilleton” by libretto of A. Mantzenilova and M. Volkonsky was held in Saint Petersburg’s “Theatre Of The Crooked Mirror” in 1909 and had a great success, however the production wasn’t been revived in the Soviet time.
The new “Vampuka” has original subtitle – “opera that is exemplary in every respect”. Director Dmitry Bertman, scenograph and costume designer Andrey Klimov and of course artistic director Galina Vishnevskaya devote this new production to Humor Day.
Both the leading soloists of the Opera Centre occupied in the new production – Natalia Levitina, Yuri Baranov and the first year students – Irina Zvenyatskaya, Alexey Sergeev, Alexey Tihomirov and others.
