For the last two years the Opera Centre has presented two stagings, both of them from Russian operatic heritage – “Ruslan and Ludmila” by M. Glinka and N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tsar’s Bride”. This time we face foreign repertoire and prepare this premiere for the forthcoming first graduation of our soloists”.
Valentin Suhodolets (Dr. Faust), Roman Astahov (Mephistopheles), Irina Oknina (Margarita), Ilia Pavlov (Valentin), Agunda Kulaeva (Zibel), Vyacheslav Avgustaitis (Vagner) and other soloists of the Opera Centre together with State Symphonic Orchestra conducted by V.Ponkin engaged in this opera.
Thanks to opera “Faust” Ch. Gounod in 1859 announced about himself and was appreciated to become one of the greatest contemporary composers. “Faust” gave the opportunity to manifest the bright features of French lyric operas and creative talent of composer such as lyricism, melodic and harmonic beauty, and sincerity. The plot is taken from 1st part of Gete’s tragedy of the same name. However the interpretation bears not philosophic concept but sooner partly lyrical and commonplace air. Gounod didn’t penetrate into thoughts about life and searching the truth. He was absorbed in passion and feelings. Ch. Gounod is a singer for love; as critics noticed he achieved a real artistic maturity in “Faust”.
