Lead singers of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre and holders of the Mstislav Rostropovich scholarship program all came out on stage offering a musical tribute to the great 20th century Russian composer Sergei Prokofyev who died 50 years ago today.
The concert held at the Centre’s premises in downtown Moscow was organized by Galina Vishnevskaya and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Mstislav Rostropovish has idolized Prokofyev all his life as the ultimate musician, the ultimate human being and a longtime friend and colleague.
Galina Vishnevskaya says that deep affection eventually brushed off on her too; the great diva always treated Prokofyev as one of her near and dear even though they never met once. “Prokofyev”s music has been an important influence on my whole life”, she says in her memoir.
