Iolanta is Tchaikovsky’s last opera written to a libretto by Modest Tchaikovsky based on Henryk Hertz’s drama King René‘s Daughter.
Galina Vishnevskaya called Iolanta «a brilliant opera, the work of a true Master, the concentration of everything that he knew and could do. The music of the opera is divine, amazing, it contains tenderness and suffering, and its plot lets one to penetrate into the very depths of the human spirit.»
The Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre has achieved artistic accomplishments with Iolanta: the production was awarded a Gold Diploma in “The Best Opera Performance” nomination at the Moscow Theater Festival 2005/2006; the performance was successfully presented not only on its own stage, but in St. Petersburg, Klin, Omsk, and Orenburg as well.
