On the 27th of March, the date of Mstislav Rostropovich’s birth there took place a commemorating concert in the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre. Since the opening of the Opera Centre in 2002 Mstislav Rostropovich took an active part in its life, organising unique master classes and concerts such as «Unknown Shostakovich – Music of the war brigades», for example, that became a precious part in the history of the young Centre. According to Maestro he was happy that Russia was still rich in talents, that was proved through his creation – Charity Foundation launched in 1997, now directed by his daughter Olga Rostropovich. These were the Centre’s students and Foundation’s exhibitioners who presented a special programme to the fans of the infinite talent of the great Maestro. In the hall there was organised a photo exhibition with unique pictures and moments of Rostropovich’s life: lessons with S. Prokofiev, performances with D. Shostakovich, first meetings with Galina Vishnevskaya… Among guests there was Mayor of Moscow – Yury Luzhkov, S. I. Khudyakov – head of the Moscow Government Department for Culture, Rectoe of the Moscow Conservatory – A. S. Sokolov, Naina Yeltsina, Tayana Dyachenko, Makvala Kasrashvili – People’s Artist, Alexander Sokurov – director, also friends and students of Mstislav Rostropovich – all those who knew and loved Maestro.
